Afternoonz at Chillz

Take Time For Yourself

Teresa's First "Afternoonz at Chillz" blog post

Recently I had the distinct honour of being awarded Woman of the Year - Entrepreneur Award from the Barrie Chamber of Commerce, in celebration of International Woman’s Day on March 8th, 2018.

Not only was I overwhelmed for having been selected from an incredible line-up of female entrepreneurs, but I was overwhelmed with the recognition. Rarely do we take the time to celebrate ourselves, especially entrepreneurs. We are so focused on the day-to-day duties of juggling work and family, and running a business that there seems little time left over to “smell the roses” and appreciate how far we’ve come. This award gave me that opportunity to bask in the glory of my achievements, appreciate the struggles I overcame, and be grateful for what I had done thus far.

This first edition of "Afternoonz at Chillz" is to remind you, too, to take time for yourself.

  • Start by taking 15-30 minutes each day to be in solitude, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and reflect on what you have done in your life or even for that day.
  • Consider the accomplishments, the hurdles, the successes, however small or great.
  • Be proud of yourself. Celebrate you!
  • If you’re not already doing it, start a journal, chronicle your thoughts, your goals, your accomplishments. You will be amazed when you read back through the pages over the past months and years what you’ve accomplished and how far you’ve come!

If you prefer to celebrate with others, than invite a friend or family member to join you in having a cup of coffee. Meet at a nice place (like Chillz), sit in a quiet booth, and take time to drink a cup of coffee from a ceramic mug, not a paper cup with a plastic lid jammed into your car console. Indulge or share a treat. Have fun and enjoy that connection with another human being. Put away your cell phones, in fact, turn them off and hide them. Engage in a meaningful conversation, laugh, bask in the enjoyment of connectedness again and celebrate each other. You will both leave feeling whole, enlightened and ready to take on the world….or at least, another day.

When you care about people, you naturally want to make them feel comfortable, important and special. As an empath, I have always put myself in other people's shoes and used the "Golden Rule" - treat them as I would want to be treated. In other words, treat them like they matter, because they do! Anticipate their needs, exceed their expectations, surprise or "wow" them. Everyone wants to know that they matter.

Customer experience is a connection or feeling your customer gets from using your product or service (within your environment, or not) with the goal being that its memorable and positive enough to encourage the customer to return and share their experience with others.

It can be difficult with our busy lives these days, to try to maintain “the spark” between a couple. Our days seem burdened with work, obligations, errands, driving the kids to their extra-curricular activities, attempting to cook healthy meals for your family, caring for elderly parents…the list goes on and on. How the heck do you keep the spark? Who has time anymore? How do we fit “one more thing” in our day? Is it another obligation? Well, it doesn’t have to be, nor should it be considered an obligation. Because without love and care for others, nothing else matters.

Did you know that of all the liquids we drink, tea is the fastest growing? Over the last few years, tea has been growing at a rate of 10% each year, compared to coffee at only 3% growth. Last year alone, Canadians drank 380,000,000 servings of hot tea, mainly due to its functionality and health benefits. Millennials drink tea more for the holistic and emotional benefits while boomers enjoy a cup of tea for functional health reasons.
